Episode 261: The Lesson In Being Present

lessons learned series Sep 24, 2022

In today's episode I share how valuable it was to be present as I vacationed with friends at the beach last week and the 4 examples that are so simple, yet most of us rarely do and when we do, we don't really tune in and appreciate those experiences.

Listen in and hear the other 3 things that truly made me feel so much more connected to the people around me and, more importantly, to myself.

I came back from this short 5 day trip more relaxed, more peaceful, and continuing to be more present than I've felt in awhile. This experience made me realize that these present moments are all around us all day, every day, so I find myself, in my day to day, much more aware of when I feel myself too focused on what's ahead and hasn't happened yet or fretting about what's already happened.

And since I'm now so much more aware of how good it makes me feel to be focused on the present moments, I can more easily shift my mind there.

Episode 258: The Lesson in Making an Assumption

lessons learned series Sep 10, 2022

In today's episode I share a recent experience where I made an assumption that was totally incorrect about my husband. As you listen, let it be a reminder to you to always be aware of how your thoughts about a situation or person may in fact be absolutely incorrect, even if you don't believe them to be.

The definition of assumption is "a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof." But we THINK we have proof because we think our thoughts are fact.

How could your life improve if you began questioning your thoughts and giving others the benefit of the doubt?

Listen in as I share 5 tips that will improve the quality of your relationships and likely decrease conflict if you apply them when catching yourself in an assuming state of mind.

Here is the blog post I referenced on the episode: https://motherhoodcommunity.com/how-to-stop-making-assumptions-in-life-relationships-work/

And here is the quote I shared from Don Miguel Ruiz in his book "The...

Episode 254: Part 2: The Lessons From An Unexpected Manifestation

lessons learned series Aug 27, 2022

This is Part 2 of me sharing the experience of my unexpected manifestation in the midst of its unfolding. I suggest you listen to Part 1 where I talk about the why and how of the manifestation before pressing play on this episode.

In this episode I share TEN lessons I've learned over the past week as I embarked on this surprising and pretty big change in my life.

As I said in the episode, it's incredible how the mission of AARP and the work I do as a coach align, and I can't wait to see how each will positively impact the other as I navigate both worlds going forward.

I am so excited to see where this new path leads me AND the lives I'm committed to improving.

Episode 252: The Lessons From An Unexpected Manifestation - Part 1

lessons learned series Aug 18, 2022

Wow! This one will probably be a shocker for sure!!! I know it was for me... I share something that was unexpectedly delivered to me by the universe in the most amazing way. I'm still in disbelief about how it went down.

What a great example of how powerful our thoughts are, proof that the universe is always listening and assisting, and when we get out of the way and stop trying to force things, incredible things can happen.

In this episode I talk about the big change that is about to happen in my life, including what caused me to take this step, how this step I never could've predicted manifested into my reality (crazy story!), and the lessons I've received so far.

Below are two past episodes and a book that I reference in this episode. (The Human Design episode number was incorrectly referenced in the recording so the link below shows the correct number and will lead you to the correct place).

Episode 248: The Lesson in Less Doing and More Being

lessons learned series Aug 07, 2022

This episode was inspired by a recent coaching session and a conversation with one of my students who’s juggling two jobs and feeling like she can’t get ahead, and as a result, is not focused on the internal work that is the key to changing her situation.

Unfortunately, many of us fall into the DOING that keeps us on the hamster wheel of life which certainly will not bring us the life we desire. Because if it could, wouldn’t we have it by now?

So it’s time to try something new!!! And that is to start following the BE, DO, HAVE model that says you first must BE the future version of yourself that has the life you desire. When you step into that version of yourself, your actions are those that will attract the things you want so that you will HAVE them.

The mistake most people make is that they are behaving the way they’ve always behaved which is operating from an identity that has created their current reality. And they think that if they keep DOING the...

Episode 246: The Lessons of The Invisible Staircase

lessons learned series Jul 30, 2022

In this episode I share a concept I learned from the book “You Are Awesome” by Neil Pasricha. I loved hearing his explanation of the invisible staircase and how we tend to get stuck because we can’t “see” the steps ahead of us.

Neil backs this concept up with facts, sharing studies that have been done that explain how our human brain works to keep us from thinking positively about the future when we hit a roadblock in life. As he also explained, it’s helpful to look back and see the steps we’ve already taken and how we kept climbing in spite of past roadblocks which is something I encourage you to do after listening to this episode.

I also explain a concept I came up with when thinking about sharing this today… The staircase landing!

Think about what a landing is… A stop on the way to the next step. It’s quite possible you’ve found yourself lingering for too long at a point on your staircase of life,...

Episode 243: The Lesson In Fully Embracing Purpose

lessons learned series Jul 22, 2022

I start this episode by talking about the downloads I received - the thoughts that came to me when I got silent as I was contemplating how to share this breakthrough with my listeners. These downloads were about:

  • How I see the pursuit of purpose as two important steps and why so many of us stop after the first step, leaving their purpose at just the inkling stage without any real pursuit, which is really sad
  • The three key components of the "finding purpose" puzzle that I explain and how they led me to finding my later-in-life purpose, so you have a real life example.

I finish the episode by explaining the aha that came to me, after my coach pointed my blind spot, which had to do with why I had veered away from talking about my purpose. It's a common blind spot among business owners who want all of their clients to succeed so if you're a business owner who has already found your purpose, this part of the episode may be helpful to you.

The great thing about breakthroughs is...

Episode 241: The Lesson In Dot Dot Dot (…)

lessons learned series Jul 15, 2022

I got this great concept about how you can use an ellipsis to adjust your mindset from a new book I'm listening to called "You Are Awesome." I ran across this book recently and it looked decent so I downloaded it with one of my many Audible credits and I am LOVING IT. In fact, I'd say this book about being awesome is awesome!!! lol!

I love finding great books that shift how we can look at things and this is one of those, taking a simple sentence and switching its punctuation so it turns from a negative into a positive. Just brilliant!

I much prefer reading a book vs. listening, but I'm loving the author's voice and the way he presents the material in this audio book, like he's right in the room talking to me.

Listen in and see if replacing a period - for a recent setback or obstacle you are currently facing that you may be using in your sentence of your life story - with a dot dot dot, gives you new hope for what may unfold in the future and helps you to keep moving forward because...

Episode 239: The Lesson In Not Getting What You Want

lessons learned series Jul 08, 2022

How many times have you wanted something and not gotten it? And when that happens, what is your reaction? Can you remember a situation recently and how you handled it?

I ask because this recently happened to me. I failed at achieving one of my goals. And THAT led to the inspiration for this episode, as well as a new process I just came up with while brainstorming this subject - the 4 Ws. (I love it when something amazing happens from inspired action!)

In this episode I talk about how I’ve learned to shift my thoughts when I don’t get what I want. I used to dwell on the negative instead of looking for the lessons. But now I’m able to pull myself out of that negative energy so much more quickly. It’s made such a difference and given me so much insight on what I now don’t ever perceive as failures.

I also share a specific example of a failed goal from 4 years ago that turned me towards a completely different path, but ultimately towards a more a more...

Episode 235: The Lesson In Regrets

lessons learned series Jun 23, 2022

This "lessons learned" episode was inspired by a download I had this past week about regrets that nudged me to share a couple of my own personal experiences with them.

One I share was a big regret for a long time, but fortunately it was diffused over time and is now no longer a regret at all. Another one was destined to be what I call a "deathbed" regret that I nipped in the bud because I finally took action to prevent that missed opportunity from happening.

As you can hear in my voice, I'm pretty passionate about this subject because I don't want you to get to the end of your life with ANY regrets! So start thinking about potential regrets you MAY have based on something you desire but haven't pursued.

And tune into why you desire them to ensure it's a desire of the heart because those will become the biggest regrets.

Perhaps the examples of scary actions I took to avoid future regrets, that have worked out pretty well for me, will inspire you to take action to avoid your own...
